„It is a strange theatre, it is the only theatre” this is how, quoting Grechuta’s words, we can describe the controversial proposition of Łukasz Witt-Michałowski. The performance realized in Detention on Remand is an innovatory project with the participation of the imprisoned, combining art with reclamation. Lysistrata by Aristophanes is an ancient comedy about the war between Athens and Sparta. In order to finish the war, the wives of the warriors confiscate money needed to carry the war and lock themselves in Acropolis. They put pressure on their husbands and deprive them of sex until they stop fighting, thus bring about peace. The adaptation of Lysistrata transfers the myth of the ancient conflict into the present day world of the Imprisoned. Acropolis with its money to carry war is a prison canteen with the goods in deficiency. The Athenians and Spartans are prison gangs fighting for these goods and Peloponnesus is a contemporary prison.
